Potterville, MI 48876
Potterville was founded in November, 1844, by Linus and Diana Potter. Through the years the small town atmosphere has attracted new residents but still maintains its sense of community and pride. With its' offerings of fine schools, retail businesses, churches, community organizations, and recreational facilities the city is a great place to live. The city of Potterville is located approximately 15 miles southwest of Lansing in northeastern Eaton County. It is located at the intersection of Lansing Road, (Old US-27) and M-100. I-69 runs along the southeast edge of the city and includes a Potterville exchange. An industrial park is located in the southwestern portion of the city and there is another industrial area in the northeastern part of the City. The Potterville school system facilities are located in the northeast portion of the City.
Located in the heart of Michigan, Potterville has easy access to interstate and state trunkline highways. The I-69 interstate links Potterville with I-94. These transportation systems allow quick and easy access to the southern third of Michigan and northern Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
Potterville has experienced significant land use changes over the past decade. There has been moderate commercial growth and one significant new industrial user, with additional land available for industrial growth.
The continued attraction with the employment centers of the Lansing are and surrounding communities will continue to encourage rapid residential, commercial, recreational, and industrial land use changes. Potterville experienced a rapid growth rate between 1990 and 2000 due to a new manufactured housing park and two new subdivisions. This 42% growth cannot be expected to continue, a projected 20% growth rate for 2010 is forecasted.
Public

Railroad Service -
The Canadian National Railroad traverses the city from the
southwest, through the center of the city and exits the cit through
the northeastern city limits. The railroad provides carrier
service from Chicago to Port Huron. Canadian National is in
the process of building a large depot just North of the city that
will allow for increased railroad service to local manufacturing
plants.
Police/Ambulance and Fire Protection -
Police protection is currently provided by the city police
department, with two marked patrol cars, and three full time
officers. The police department receives assistance, when
needed, from the Eaton County Sheriff Department and from the
Michigan State Police, Lansing Post.
Ambulance and fire protection are provided by a joint effort between
the City of Potterville and Benton township. The combined fire
station is located north of the railroad tracks along Hartel Road.
